Meet our Family of Merry Misfits
MISFIT FEATURED CAST
Rudy Rotnase
Christmas Enthusiast. Midnight gifter. Candy Cane Afficionado
Sean Marlow
Meet Rudy Rotnase
It's not every day you see a 43-year old Hermey Elf doppleganger dressed as one of Santa's elves with his (rein)dear friend, an antler-wearing chihuahua. Unless of course, you live in Rudy's world.
About Sean Marlow
Sean Marlow has known Sean Brown since they both had to embroider Sean M and Sean B in their training bras to distinguish whose was whose. We kid. They actually met in college where they were part of the School of Performing and Visual Arts where Sean B majored in Directing and Sean M, in acting. Sean Marlow is thrilled to have a dream of a lifetime come true and even more grateful that it happened with somebody as great as Sean Brown. This is Sean M’s second project with Sean B and hopes to grow old doing more together. Having acted often in childhood and in school it wasn’t until later on in life that he understood that acting was his “thing”. Sean has performed in venues from Georgia to Seattle and from Dallas to Chicago where he Co-founded Trap Door Theatre some 25 years ago. Spending his off time with the visual arts, acting always seemed to draw him back.
Clarice
Rankin and Bass Buff. Felinofile. NOT a Stalker.
Amy Hagan
Meet Clarice
Clarice works with Rudy at Moonracers as a waitress. She's got a quirky purrsonality and is always pawsitive, except when it comes to mean people. Luis is rude to Rudy and can sometimes take advantage of him, and when she tries to stand up for him, Mickey says she needs a catitude adjustment! Could she be pawsitively purrrfect for Rudy? She's purrty, purrsonable and purrky! What's not to love?
About Amy Hagan
'I grew up in Sherwood, OR and fell in loving with acting at a young age doing Missoula Children’s Theatre. I always wanted to become an actor so I moved to California to attend The American Musical and Dramatic Academy (AMDA). After graduating I did stand up at the Comedy Store, was in a Cricket Wireless commercial with John Cena, and did a foam roller commercial where I was a crossfit athlete. My favorite role by far is Clarice in XMAS FREAK, it was such a fun role and a fun cast and crew.
Amy has been having a banner year with being cast as a lead in Xmas Freak and getting certified as a personal trainer! Take THAT Covid!

Cool Guy/Nelson
Super cool. Upcycler. Grown-up Dodgeballer.
David Drumgold
Meet Cool Guy/Nelson
If there's someone on Rudy's radar who he'd like to be like and befriend, it's Nelson. He's the coolest guy in Rudy's world. He sees him on the train everyday and he watches his every move. Nelson oozes so much cool, that for the time he's in Rudy's orbit, Rudy behaves like a cool fan who just spotted his favorite celebrity but doesn't want to bother him for his autograph or try to talk to him because that would be uncool. Momentarily not uncool is the closest to cool as Rudy gets.
About David Drumgold
CHRISTMAS FREAK. was a most rewarding experience. Getting to meet, work and share space with Sean Marlow was an exceptional chance. He made me trust in the reveal and commit. Sean Brown took my strengths and weaknesses and spun them into golden encouragement. The crew is a filmmakers dream. It was like theater camp. FUN FUN - XF is my 2nd film since returning to performing after more than a decade of premier event production. Before CF, I appeared in 'NICK AND NICKY'. I am a partner in NEW MONOLITH a television and film production company. We are filming DESK SHOW, a web-series anchored by monsters and aliens for Youtube.
Check out my work here.
Donna Rotnase (Mom)
Self-proclaimed Empath. Giver. Morning Drinker.
Gemma Bulos
Meet Rudy's Mom
Rudy has a complicated relationship with his mother. His father left them when he was 13, and it's been just the two of them ever since. She's not fond of this Christmas everyday thing because they don't agree what the perfect Christmas should be. She has her reasons for not liking Christmas. She loves ALL the holidays! Plus, why would anyone want to have fruitcake everyday when you can have daily morning melancholy-flavored margaritas?
About Gemma Bulos
What would be on your best friend bucket list if together, you've already co-starred in a musical that Sean Brown wrote; lived in 6 apartments over 2 years - one where we had to scale down the side of a 4-story building to get in, and another we built in an old factory and created the amazing colossal, roller-ball-bearing monster slide ride of death - boo-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha; then moved to NYC and co-produced and co-wrote GBs one-woman-shows; tripped in ancient caves in Turkey; taught English in Seoul, Korea; jumped out of a plane with T'shirts that said 'Last One Dead is a Sissy'; and were each other's maid of honor and best man at our respective nuptials? Why, make a movie together of course! It could be what made this set feel like family. It was family from the start. More about Gemma here.
Prancer
Scene stealer. Cheese log craver. Cuter than the real Prancer.
Taco
Meet Prancer
Prancer is the Christmas gift that just keeps on giving! He's Rudy's best friend and resident reindeer. FYI. He's not really a reindeer and those aren't real antlers. If you don't know, now you know.
About Taco
The role of Prancer was performed by the multi-talented, NASA trained space dog, Taco. Taco worked his way through college as an EMT dog and has saved countless lives by licking faces and jumping on laps. At 27, Taco invented YouTube. When cat videos began to overtake society, he retired to a busy shopping mall in Fresno where he managed floor scrap removal for several years before finally adopting two dogless adult humans, Sean Brown and John Doyle. Despite his noble Toltec lineage, Taco is happy to have acted in (as a favor to Sean and also for some ham and cheese log) the starring role of Prancer in the upcoming dog movie Christmas Freak and urges all dogs to follow their dreams.
Taco chooses to do all his own stunts. A consummate pro, and supporter of pay equity, he even took a pay cut so that Santa and all the other reindeer could get equal pay.
Homeless Guy
Wreath watcher. Bridgewalker. Sage.
John Doyle
Meet Homeless Guy
One could argue that Rudy likes routine. He wakes up at 12:01a to open presents, he bakes cookies for the old folks at Moonracers, and well, he celebrates Xmas every day. Lately, he's been encountering a homeless guy who hangs out across the street from his house and unexpectedly runs into Rudy in different parts of town. Rudy enjoys his run-ins with him, maybe because they can be loners together. Maybe one day, they'll learn each others names, and become life long friends.
About John Doyle
Christmas Freak's resident homeless guy, actor John Doyle, is a seasoned Family Values Productions performer having appeared in all five Family Values Productions films up to this point. While not in front of the camera John likes to spend his free time going to museums, visiting historic cemeteries, pouring over old books at the special collections room of his local public library and hosted a very popular Trivia Night on Tuesdays pre-covid. He also specializes in taking at home directions from Xmas Freak's director Sean Brown to whom he has been partnered for twenty three years. How's that for keeping production values in the family?
Luis
Busser. Hustler. Under the table Rustler.
Edward Bernier V
Meet Luis
Luis takes Micky's teamwork battle cries to heart. Even though he is the busboy and dishwasher at Moonracers, if they are truly a team, then shouldn't they share the load? Luis takes the opportunities that Mickey offers him to give Rudy an opportunity to clear tables, wash dishes and mop up sticky old people stuff. #recipeforsuccess

and... as Mickey
Commanding officer. Faux follicled. Platitudes for attitude.
David Basila
Meet Mickey
Micky is Rudy's boss at Moonracers. He likes things to run smoothly, and he always gives his staff opportunities to succeed. He runs a tight ship just like he did when he was in the military. That's probably why he calls everyone 'soldier'. Or is it?
About David Basila
David (SAG/AFTRA) was born in Detroit, Michigan and knew from an early age he wanted to perform and eventually made his way to New York City. He lived in Southeast Asia for a bit, then ended up in LA where he was mentored by Scott Bernstein, who helped him sharpen his craft and guide him into the acting community of LA. He also studied with Lesly Kahn, Harry Mastrogeorge, Amy Lyndon, Cameron Thor and so many great teachers. His first professional job was costarring with Eminem in the hit video for The REAL SLIM SHADY. which led to costarring with Michael Jackson in the video for YOU ROCK MY WORLD, Kelly Clarkson, as well as numerous national commercials and print ads. MISFIT PRODUCTION CREW
Montetre
Director of Photography/Editor
Montetré is the founder of LoGoat Pictures, and is quite thrilled to be working to help create CHRISTMAS FREAK, of which he is both the director of photography, and editor! Over the course of his career he has accomplished producing, directing and editing seven of his own feature films. Most of his past and present work can be found at his website. Follow him on social media at LoGoat Pictures.
Pheonix Wolfe
Production Designer
Pheonix made sure that every inch of the sets told us about the people who occupied the location, the stories of their lives, and the things that they loved. At Rudy's house, from the graham cracker walls, to the popcorn laced paneling, to the red-nosed house! Every chachki, every strand of tinsel, every candycane was carefully selected and placed so that each moment of film unlocked Rudy's imperfect world. She also did hair, make-up and wardrobe!

Michael Gibson
Sound Designer
Michael Gibson is a production sound mixer in the Portland Metro area. Michael has been working on movies, film, tv, and media since 2018, but has been a lover of movies and cinema since he was a child growing up in Los Angeles. Michael loves nothing more than being on set, working with the Indie film community, and meeting new people to collaborate with.
Molly Wilson
Assistant Director
Molly Wilson is often known as a Swiss Army knife on sets. She has experience in everything from special effects, to directing, to production design. After spending several years studying music, theatre and film, Molly has found her love for film triumphs above all of the arts. As a citizen of the Island of Misfit Toys, she is excited to have been able to contribute to bringing Rudy’s story to life.
Perry Huen
Second Assistant Director
Of the many of Perry's responsibilities, getting the call sheet out wasn't a picnic since the call sheet changed by the minute because of delays and inclement weather! He communicated with all the extras, actors, supporting characters - including being Taco/Prancer's wrangler. Not gonna lie, Taco was a diva. Very needy. He shared his expertise and displayed the courage and humility to allow others to share theirs. Check out his website.
Jesse Newell
Assistant Camera
Jesse is a filmmaker and actor from Portland, Oregon. He works on editing and producing content out of Desert Island Studio. Currently working with a comedy show called Kickin' It to make videos such as the Jake On The Streets series. He also co-created an obscure food show with Ethan Dutcher. What The Food tries to rid people of their "ick" factor by making repulsive ingredients approachable.
Ashley Strom
Gaffer
I (Ashley) was originally hired onto the production as talent for the role of Molly. When I heard that additional help was needed, I jumped on it as I knew that cool people would be on the production.I have always been into theatrics and cameras, so it’s no surprise that I’m here helping out on this film.

Matthew Hampshire
Production Crew
This was the first film set Matthew had ever worked on! He got an all-hands-on-deck experience learning about everything that goes into making a low budget feature film, and we got a hardworking, caring and earnest team member and new friend! Win-Win! We hope we didn't scare him away, and he learned more do's than don'ts!
Sophie Gass
Production Assistant
Filmmakers live for storytelling. There are so many stories that emerge when making a film beyond the actual story they are telling in the film. Sophie filmed behind the scenes stories of the work that this amazing crew did to build Rudy's perfectly imperfect world and is making a film of the making of the film. Yay, Sophie! #weareallpartofthestory
Gemma Bulos
Producer and Music Producer and Supervisor
In 2001, Gemma was a professional jazz singer and actress and was supposed to be in the World Trade Center when the planes hit. Instead, she called in sick. In response, she wrote We Rise a new peace anthem, left her life, gave away all her belongings, released her rent controlled NYC apartment, and began traveling around the world to mobilize a Million Voice Choir to sing it. This was her first foray into filmmaking, when she produced a music video of We Rise featuring peace warriors she met from around the globe who participated - including Jane Goodall, Archbishop Desmund Tutu, Pete Seeger and other amazing people In the 100 cities in 60 countries that joined the movement. Over the next 10 years, she started clean water projects in Asia and Africa after winning the CG Vibes Award from Queen Latifah and CoverGirl for Women Changing the World Through Music. Her work has provided clean water to over a million people in Asia and Africa - and has won international awards at the World Economic Forum, Silicon Valley's Tech Awards and at the United Nations. She dived deeper into filmmaking when she started producing short films capturing her work in Africa. Her personal mantra, 'it takes a single drop of water to start a wave' is her invitation to everyone to recognize how powerful they are. To realize that their every thought, word and action will ripple out and affect those around them. And invite them to use their power for good.

Sean Brown
Writer / Director / Producer
Above are just a the few of the roles Sean played during the shoot. In addition to writing and directing Xmas Freak, Sean also co-wrote the music and sang with his musical partner Gemma Bulos as The New Carpenters. A prolific writer, Sean wrote the lyrics for all 6 of the songs on the XF soundtrack and co-wrote the music for 4 of them.
As Taco's daddy, he was also Taco's trainer and handler. Although animals were not harmed in the making of this film, we have some suspicions that maybe Sean was! The magnitude of the information he was tracking, executing, delegating, repeating and reworking would make jack in the box’s head spin. That, along with taking care of the cast and crew to help them unleash their talents in ways they never even imagined they could was a monumental task and he did it with utmost patience, class and reverence.
In film, directors are usually referred to as the captain of the ship. This is not the right metaphor with Sean. In Sean’s case, he is the rising tide that lifts all boats. Every single one of us who was part of this production came out of this experience inspired and uplifted, and Sean was and still is, our ocean. And the best part, we’ve got a damn good movie! Your next favorite holiday movie to be precise!

The New Carpenters
Musical Performers and Song Composers
Gemma Bulos and Sean Brown, both from Southern California, met while attending university in San Diego. At a vocal recital, Sean heard Gemma solo sing 'Pieces of Dreams' and then back ups during a performance of the 80's smash hit "Take On Me" and knew immediately Gemma was an amazing talent. The two became fast friends and flatmates. G&S began singing together as The New Carpenters in LA in 1987. Christened "The New Carpenters" by underground filmmaker Greg Araki because of the smooth yacht rock sounds the duo produced - they're still not sure if that was a compliment - G&S took LA by storm performing 3 shows before retiring in 1988 when Gemma went solo and moved to NYC. After more than 30 years, G&S are thrilled to reunite on this fun, eclectic grouping of Chirstmas songs for the Christmas Freak soundtrack. Ranging from the zany "Xmas Is The Very Best Day" to the beautiful jazz ballad "Cool Xmas" (listen here), G&S bring these magical soon-to-be Xmas classics to life in a collection you and your family will treasure.
